Girl Scouts of Singing Sands Council impacts girls ages 5-17 (grades K-12) from all racial, ethnic, religious, and socio-economic populations including girls with disabilities. More than 8,100 girls were served during the last membership year through troops, camps, collaborations and a variety of efforts to reach girls.

Membership includes nearly 2,000 adults who serve in a wide variety of volunteer roles and make Girl Scouting possible in our area. Volunteers are supported by a staff of 22 full- and part-time workers. The Council provides programming to girls in ten counties in the Michiana area – Berrien, Branch, Cass, St. Joseph and Van Buren Counties in Michigan and LaGrange, LaPorte, Marshall, St. Joseph and Starke Counties in Indiana.

To communicate with members and volunteers, Sandpiper is published three times annually and is mailed to all adult members and families of girls in our council. During the school year, Spotlights, an update of program, training and other information, is distributed to volunteers.

The council headquarters is located on 16 acres in South Bend, Indiana. It houses administrative offices, a training center, and a full service Girl Scout shop. The office is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The council also owns and operates two program and camping facilities – Camp Shawadasee and Camp Soni Springs.

Camp Shawadasee is located on Bankson Lake near Lawton, Michigan (about 15 miles southwest of Kalamazoo). The site provides a beautiful, rustic location for summer resident camp, day camp, troop camping, as well as service unit, association and council events. The camp covers 262 acres of hilly forest and meadows with shorefront access that totals more than three tenths of a mile. Facilities include platform tent units, a unit of cabins, two troop lodges, shower house, dining hall health lodge and various support buildings. Additionally, the theater barn, which dates to 1846, provides a performance stage with lighting and seating as well as houses the camp’s nature center. Camp Shaw is proud to be accredited by the American Camp Association.

Camp Soni Springs is located four miles southwest of Three Oaks, Michigan, and approximately 30 miles from South Bend. The camp includes 156 acres of open meadow and woods. A small lake provides opportunities for swimming and boating. Lodging is available in either traditional platform tents with cots and mattresses or in three lodges/cabins. The site hosts a summer of association day camps each year along with troop camping, and service unit, association and council events.

ScOutfitters Girl Scout Shop offers complete uniforms and handbooks for all age levels, as well as gifts, T-shirts, stuffed toys, gift certificates and Girl Scout publications. The shop accepts cash, check, Visa, MasterCard and valid Cookie Dough. Shop hours are Monday-Thursday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the first Saturday from October to June, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. October to April (except December) the ScOutfitters Shop remains open until 6:30 p.m. on the third Tuesday of the month.
