Tegan's Story

Tegan Sites

Tegan Sites has been attending Girl Scout camp since she was a 6-year-old Daisy in 2012. She took time recently to share her camp memories with us!

"The first year I went to day camp, I was really nervous at the bus stop and on the bus, but when I got to camp all the counselors were super nice and I had so much fun.

When I was younger I learned that I wasn’t the best at crafts, but I really liked the adventure activities like zip lining, rock wall and low ropes. Now that I’m older, I still like those and I also really like helping with the little kids.

I keep coming back to summer camp because of the environment and the counselors. I love all the activities, but my favorite camps are teen week and horse camp.

An activity that has challenged me the most is the island swim at Camp Logan. I have done the island swim every year I’ve attended Camp Logan, and I always look forward to it. I am also a Counselor in Training, and I can’t wait to be a counselor this summer.

For first-time campers, I would give them this advice: Talk to people and get to know girls in your group. Camp is so much more fun when you make friends. Don’t overthink it! Camp isn’t scary.

After I graduate from high school I plan to attend Purdue to become a vet. I am thankful for the opportunities that Girl Scouts has provided me!"
